Cocowhite | Oil Pulling For Whiter Teeth

Cocowhite are a brand that keeps appearing on Instagram - mainly on reality star accounts. Like those from Towie, Made In Chelsea and Geordie Shore. It was kind of obvious they were getting paid to advertise Cocowhite but when I saw they were UK based and affordable, I knew I had to give it a go. Plus I am on a quest for whiter teeth and I'm willing to try anything new.

Cocowhite are a UK based, 100% natural health products company that has a desire to promote a healthy and balanced lifestyle. CocoWhite products originated on the back of a well known practice called Oil Pulling, to provide a 100% natural alternative to the chemical fuelled teeth whitening craze.

So I popped over to the Cocowhite website and I was shocked to see that they were completely out of stock on everything. They were obviously more popular than I first expected. Then a little box popped up saying they have limited stock every day at 1pm. So I went back on at 1pm, no luck! I continued this for a good week until about 9 days later I finally I got my hands on some!
Was it worth the wait? Find out below....

So what exactly is oil pulling? (taken from the Cocowhite website)
It involves swishing oil around the mouth and has been used for thousands of years as an Indian folk remedy. The way it works is simple. When you swish the oil around your mouth, the bacteria “get stuck” in it and dissolve in the liquid oil. Basically, you remove a large amount of the bacteria and plaque in your mouth each time you do this (sounds gross but it is effective)

The main benefit of oil pulling is to reduce the amount of harmful bacteria in the mouth. There are actually thousands of different types of bacteria in the mouth. Some of them are friendly, others are not. The bacteria in the mouth create a “biofilm” on the teeth – a thin layer that they use to adhere to the surface. This is what we know as “plaque.”

Cocowhite comes in three different flavours - Minty Fresh, Light Lemon and Vanilla Swirl. They all sounded nice to me and I couldn't choose which flavour I wanted to try. But then I noticed they sold an assorted set of sachets, where I'd get to sample them all.
You get 14 sachets (one a day) which gives you two weeks worth of whitening treatment.

So how do you use it?
First thing you will notice about the product is that it is hard. What they suggest is to warm it in your hands to help melt it. I sometimes even popped it on the radiator to help melt it quicker. I even stuck it in my bra a couple of times to warm it up haha!
Next you cut off the top and just squeeze the oil into your mouth. It is recommended to use before brushing your teeth and works better in the evening as it can continue to work over night.
Now I'm not going to lie, it tasted really odd and the texture was vile but half way the treatment I did get slightly use to it. It's suggested that you swish it around in your mouth (like you do mouthwash) for around 5-10 minutes. The first time I tried it, I only managed 5 minutes as I just couldn't stand the texture but then after a couple of days I managed 15 minutes and continued the 15 minutes for the duration of the treatment.

For the flavours, vanilla was definitely my favourite. It tasted the least like coconut oil and actually tasted like sweet vanilla. Next I would have to choose mint and then it would be lemon.
As you can see my teeth are a lot whiter and I am very impressed with the results. I didn't experience any sensitivity to my teeth which gets a big thumbs up from me and I also felt the my mouth felt fresher and healthier after using them.
Looking at the ingredients of these sachets it only consists of two things - coconut oil and flavouring. So I'm pretty sure if you didn't want to wait around until they come in stock again, you could just buy yourself some pure coconut oil and do it yourself.

Overall I am really happy with the experience but I am definitely going to buy some coconut oil and do it myself next time. I will be sure to let you know how I get on.
